AN02718_.WMF (1764 bytes) Spring brings thoughts of love - and furry critters are out looking for it! CAREFUL - They could bring RABIES to your yard and family.

Skunks may be cute, but they can be deadly.  They are the single largest carrier of RABIES in our area.  So far this year, there have been more rabid skunks found in North Texas than in ALL of last year put together.  Skunks, raccoons and other critters travel up and down the plentiful creeks in our area.  If your cats, dogs or kids play outside, they may be exposed.

Rabies is not just transmitted by bites. It can be transmitted simply by touch. It is passed from animal to animal or to human by mucous or spit.  This spit or mucous can enter the blood stream in a scratch or cut you, your pet or your child may already have. Our pets are our first line of defense in stopping infection of rabies from spreading from the wild to civilization. State law requires that they be vaccinated every year, and it's up to us to make sure that they are protected. THERE IS NO CURE FOR RABIES.  Once the infection sets in, a slow and agonizing death follows.

If you, your child or your pet come in contact with a skunk, a bat, or pet that is acting strangely, contact your physician immediately.  Rabies treatments must be received before the virus can incubate.  Tell your children not to touch wild animals.

Don't delay those vaccinations!   Call us to make sure you are current at 972-618-7499.
